2025 Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded to Three Quantum Pioneers

Three distinguished scientists in the United States have been jointly awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics for their revolutionary discoveries in quantum physics. The prize was given for the discovery of macroscopic quantum tunneling and the quantization of energy in electronic circuits.
According to zharfa News Agency, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that Clark, 82 (British), Devoret, 72 (French), and Martinis, 67 (American), will share the 11 million Swedish Kronor prize. Their discoveries have paved the way for advances in quantum cryptography, computing, and sensing.
These scientists demonstrated that the unique properties of quantum mechanics can be observed on a macroscopic scale. Quantum tunneling allows particles to pass through barriers, a phenomenon that has enabled advanced technological applications.
Since 1901, 226 individuals, including 5 women, have received the Nobel Prize in Physics. John Bardeen, an American scientist, is the only person to have won the award twice.
The winners of the Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences will be announced in the coming days, respectively. The awards ceremony will be held on December 10th, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
