China Expresses Concern Over Recent Clashes Between Taliban and Pakistan

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern on Monday, October 13, that recent border clashes between Pakistan and the Taliban-led government could jeopardize the safety of Chinese citizens and investments in the region.
According to Zharfa News Agency, Beijing urged both sides to exercise restraint, resolve their differences through dialogue, and refrain from escalating tensions.
The Taliban administration and Pakistan announced on Sunday that overnight clashes along their shared border resulted in dozens of fatalities.
Lin Jian, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a press briefing: “China is willing to play a constructive role in improving relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.”
Earlier this August, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a trilateral meeting in Kabul with Pakistani officials and the Taliban’s foreign minister, emphasized the need to expand multilateral cooperation and strengthen engagement at all levels.
