Germany on the Verge of Deportation Agreement with Taliban

Germany’s Interior Minister has reported significant progress in negotiations with the Taliban for the regular repatriation of Afghan migrants, stating that this agreement will also include regular flights.

According to zharfa News Agency citing Deutsche Welle, Alexander Dobrindt announced in an interview with “Der Pointer” media that technical discussions have been conducted in Kabul and the final agreement is imminent. He defended direct negotiations with the Taliban and dismissed human rights criticisms.

Dobrindt emphasized that if Qatar acts as a mediator it is acceptable, but Germany’s direct negotiations are not unethical. He is prepared to travel to Kabul to sign the agreement for deporting dangerous criminals.

Since 2021, only two deportation flights from Germany to Afghanistan have taken place, both facilitated by Qatar’s mediation.

Dobrindt added that similar efforts are underway for Syria to establish a regular repatriation process. This agreement could impact Afghan migrants and heighten human rights concerns.
